HISTORY:

TRAVELS WITH BILLYBOB With apologies to Steinbeck, this area of BillyBob's Garage will be used to log the trips BillyBob and I make together.

WORK-IN-PROGRESS is the restoration of parts of BillyBob that I can accomplish without a garage.

PRE-RESTORATION includes log entries of minor repairs and and adventures between time of purchase and the time when I started restoration, a piece at a time.

JR'S KORNER JR's Korner is the history of BillyBob before I got him authored by my brother, Wm. C. Kephart.

MAINTENANCE:

BILLYBOB MAINTENANCE Ever changing detailing, oil change, lube, etc. maintenance routines specifically developed for BillyBob, including required tools, materials and procedures.

PARTS SHOP The Parts Shop is a repository of How-To articles. Things that I have done over and over enough times to have developed a procedure. This gives me a checklist and saves brain cells.

STEALTH SHOP Urban residence design with large integrated shop and separate living quarters for a relative or renter.

2. Nuts n Bolts: Inventory Organization

BillyBob is a daily driver. It's not long after I install a shiny new part that it begins to suffer from dirt and corrosion. I combat this condition by constantly detailing BillyBob's subassemblies. There is a ordered list I follow (and continue to add to). When the list is completed, I start at the beginning again.

This work would go faster (leaving BillyBob immobile for a shorter period of time) if I didn't have to stop to re-finish fasteners. I decided to start phasing in more durable fasteners (stainless steel) as well as keep two sets of fasteners and small parts so that while one set is on the truck, the other set can be in rotation for cleaning and re-finishing operations on those rainy days when I can't work outside much.

I decided to organize the fasteners and small parts into groups that match the detailing operations. I have a collection of wooden cigar boxes that I continue to add to. Yes, I'm a cigar smoker. I's my one remaining vice 'an I'm not giving it up, even tho' I'm aware that when the gays came out of the closets, the smokers were pushed into them.

Bumper and License Plate Group

The first group of fasteners that I organized were the bumper and license plate bracket group.

Click to display large 67Kb image in separate windowI had a second set of cleaned fasteners together and ready for derusting and re-finishing operations when I decided to buy a 47-55 Chevy Complete Bolt Set (less bed bolts), Stainless Steel from Doc's House of bolts. It included the bumper and bumper bracket fasteners but not the license plate hardware.
