I haven't been here in awhile and one of the tires on the Renegade had gone flat. I had a portable air tank with me and was happy to see it bring the tire back up to about forty pounds. The Jeep hasn't moved in a few years and I have to get it running again so I will have transportation in case Deerslayer breaks down to the point where he will be laid up for awhile.

Rich Martin, fellow holeshot in the wall gang member, picked me up at the BillyBob Shop to go up to the Boca warehouse bay and pick up Renegade.  I had gone up on Monday and put air in the right front tire which was flat again. Rich has a nice roll-back trailer and we were on the way back to the BillyBob Shop in short order.

Gato started giving me tips on getting it started and I asked him if he could take it on. He said yeah and Rich, Gato and I pushed it down to Gato's bay with Gato and Rich doing most of the pushing. I went back to the BillyBob Shop to take the bumper off of Deerslayer.

By the time I got the bumper off, Gato was at my door to tell me about his investigation so far. In the time it had taken me to get the damn bumper off, He had tried to drain Renegade's tank and finding the fuel pump defective, had dropped the tank and pulled it. Getting the tank out involves dropping the Jeep bumper and gas tank skid plate as well as fooling with the filler neck and vent. He had also started fiddling around in the engine compartment. This is an example of how glacially slow I am compared to someone who does this work for a living.

The fuel pump/sender unit was corroded beyond repair and all the gas tank seals and gaskets had turned into a black goo. This was the result of setting five years with half a tank of ethanol gas. I went off to the Krash Lab and ordered a new gas pump/sender unit and emission roll-over check valve along with gaskets.

June 22nd 2015 Ordered the fuel pump/sender unit from Quadratec (they are different for the 20 gal polyethylene tank of the Renegade package from the base Jeep 14.5 gal steel tank). I directed them to ship overnite fedex. Quadratec did not carry the emission roll-over check valve and grommet. I found two suppliers, one on eBay and another who was an Amazon partner. No shipping options from either so, I ordered from both.

Good news / Bad news: Fedex delivered to the BillyBob Shop and it is closed up four of the five weekdays. I got Quadratec to tell Fedex to walk down the building and deliver it to Gato. and Fedex reported it delivered Thursday afternoon.

Bad news - I didn'trecognize the name of the signing person. Gato and his girl went away for the weekend for some well deserved recreation.

Good news - Monday morning, the emission roll-over check valve and grommet from one of the vendors arrived in a pile of packages at the Krash Lab. I jumped in the scrubbing bubble rental Kia and took it to Gato. He had gotten the sender/pump on Thursday and this gadget was the correct one.

Bad news - two of these things are needed, one for each side of the tank.

Good news - I had ordered from two vendors in hope of saving time so, I rushed back to the Krash Lab to find the other emission roll-over check valve and grommet was also lurking in that pile of packages. I ran it back down to Gato.

this time, duplication of parts orders saved my butt. That is not usually the case. I have shelves of spare parts attesting to that.

On Tuesday, I settled up with Gato and took Renegade back to work. Stopped for fuel and upon leaving the gas station, Renegade's left front disk brake dragged for about three blocks. The wheel smoked and it felt like I was pulling a trailer. The caliper abruptly freed itself up and I haven't had any trouble since.

On Saturday, I put Renegade's right rear tire back on and returned the spare to its mount on the tailgate. Added 12oz of seafoam additive to the gas tank and mounted the scissors jack back under the hood where it belongs. Topped off the oil and other fluids. The oil only has a little over a hundred miles since the last change and it is not dirty yet. In a week's worth of the daily commute, the only thing I've noted amiss so far is non-working windshield wipers. Sea trials are over. I'm taking the rental Kia back tomorrow.
